Netflix customers should beware of a phishing scam email that surfaced this afternoon. The email, which was received by a New Zealand customer, was titled “Suspension of your Νetflix membership” and claimed that the company had to validate “billing and payment details”.
We failed to confirm your payment information, we maintain record to your account, so we will need to ask you to complete a brief validation process so as to verify your payment and billing details,” the email said.
The email comes from the address email@example.com.
The email went on to say “We take each step required to automatically affirm our users sadly in this case we had been unable to verify your details”
“Struggling to complete the identification process will result in a suspension of your own Νetflix membership”
A spokesperson for Netflix has been contacted about the issue.
Netflix customer service said that anybody worried about email and its validity can forward it to the Netflix team at firstname.lastname@example.org
It’s not the first time customers from New Zealand are targeted by a scam email purporting to be from Netflix.
In November, a customer received an email came from email@example.com claiming Netflix was increasing its price from $11.99 to $14.99 per month.
